Day 2, 363 days left to go until my challenge is complete. Today I struggled with staying on track. I had a stressful day and I wanted to do what I normally do and find something quick to eat, my frozen burritos or Amy’s frozen meals. I cleaned out my fridge before the New Years and I figured I was safe…or was I? No matter how many times I opened and closed the refrigerator door the same Super healthy -not yet cooked food was still there! In the middle of my emotional eating crisis I opened the freezer and found it..a box of frozen cheese jalapeño swirls was calling to me.
It was time to coach the health coach..:). So here is my list of steps to mindful eating:
1. Step away from the temptation, walk out to a different room if you must
2. Take several deep breaths
3. Ask yourself how are you feeling in the moment. Are you hungry, Sad , angry? Do you simply seek comfort?
4. Are there any other options available that are healthier?
5. Remind yourself that investing in your health is a reward in itself and avoiding foods that don’t fuel your body is not a punishment.
6. If you just had to have it, you can still save the day. Drink 1 large glass of water and if possible walk for 20 min as soon as you are done eating. And if all the above fails, start fresh tomorrow, making sure you’ve learned from today. Baby steps do count!
I am happy to say I managed to keep my promise to myself and I did not give in…but it was so much harder then expected. I also realized I need to be prepared and have a healthy home cooked meal already prepped and ready to go.
